Eric Grant Band Returns From Nashville, Readies For CD Release Event
Cider Magazine Bellows Falls, Vt. June, 2012
GILFORD, N.H. - In the third and final chapter of Cider Mag's continuing Eric Grant Band (EGB) chronicles, yours truly caught up with Eric one more time as he reflects on the whirlwind of the last few months of traveling and recording for the new EGB CD, set to be released at the end of June. We also now have a CD title - ""Country As It Gets."

After returning from three final days of recording in Nashville under the continued direction of New Voice Entertainment, EGB got right to work. "After arriving in Nashville on a Sunday night and going over the game plan, we started out first thing on Monday and once again, were greeted with smiles, warmth and sincere hugs," Eric said. "These guys are so true to being the best in every way.
"The first priority was to finish and nail down the keyboard tracks… so off we went creating and writing parts, as well as editing at the same time. After that we did some more prep on editing and then moved to the vocals. It was some work for Paul and Shelly as they are used to all three singing at once… so listening to just their part and the lead vocal was different and challenging. But no one 'settled' as they made them sing the parts over and over to make it as good as it could be… but we had a lot of fun and laughs through it all."
At the time of this interview, Eric just so happened to be listening to the final mixes, as the tracks get ready to be mastered for the CD release. "I love how the final mixes sound.. so much so, that I am not sure how much better sounding it can get through the mastering process". EGB also recently did the CD photo shoot, with everything then being shipped to the disc-makers for artwork finalization and duplication.
"We should be receiving the new CDs the last week in June, in which case we will have our big CD release event, titled "Country As It Gets" of course, at the Lakes Region Casino in Loudon, NH. We're going to have a big, six-hour outdoor event with three of us playing… the other two artists are local guys, but also Nashville recording artists themselves. Jimmy Lahoux is on the Ruby Records label and the very talented Skyler will be joining us. It's gonna be one great night!"
Capitol Productions will be doing the stage, lighting and sound, with Budweiser, Coors Light, Jack Daniels, 93.3 The Wolf, WOKQ, WKLB and Amoskeg Distributors all sponsoring this massive event. What a way for EGB to not only culminate the amazing journey they have experienced, but also to kick off a very busy summer ahead.
"This summer is going to be off the hook," Eric concludes. "My phone and email have been relentless and I am very thankful that so many great people have asked us to a part of their events. It is so much fun doing private, municipal and special events… don't get me wrong, the bars are your roots and its where people come to unwind and enjoy their time with you, but these special events become just that much better!"
It would be nearly impossible for Eric and the band to fully explain all their feelings about the incredible experience they have lived over the last few months and certainly, what continues to lie ahead, but I unfairly asked Eric to try and put it in perspective anyway!
"I will never forget the many kind, sincere and inspiring words and looks that Kurt, David, Rich and Tully (at New Voice Entertainment) gave to us throughout the process. For example, one of them would be nodding their head while listening to a playback and would look back at me and say 'who wrote this song?'… and when I would humbly reply 'me,"… they would just shake their head and nod in approval as they enjoyed the song. At times, it was truly surreal!
"However, I have to say that the most memorable moment for me was a late night when we were working on the song "Take Off Your Coat." It is a ballad about two people who have lost connection and love together, and one day the other shows up on the doorstep in tears, only to be asked to come in, sit down and talk for a while.
"So, its 3 a.m. in the studio, the lights are down and the glow of the console lights filled the darkness. We're with the guys and the song is being played back on the big speakers and it just sounds amazing… and even though I've heard the song a million times… 30 seconds into the song I was choked up with tears! So, I just bowed my head, leaned back and just enjoyed every tear and every bit of emotion as it played… the way they had arranged and presented the song was like no other!
"When the song finished playing and everyone looked at me for feedback, I looked up with the wettest face you can imagine… and I just smiled at 'em and said 'You guys are @#$% ^&*$!!!' and just started laughing. It turned into a group dude-hug and everyone was in awe of the moment. That is when I remember thinking that this is where I was meant to be… I will never forget that night as long as I live!
Sounds like the culmination of a lot of hard work and a dream come true for the Eric Grant Band, and Cider thanks Eric for letting us come along for the ride of a lifetime! We're looking forward to the release of "Country As It Gets" and this writer cannot wait to hear the fruits of their labor... so be on the lookout for a CD review!
