The Message For The Week

Nearly six years after launching JEM Freelance Writing I took the final step towards becoming a tried-and-true full-time writer, when in early 2005 I left the mental health field to become the full-time position as the Sports Editor for a community-orientated weekly publication called The Message For The Week, located in Chester, Vermont.

The Message is the second-largest weekly publication in the state, with a circulation of 25,000 papers distributed weekly to over 50 towns and villages throughout the Windham County-area of Southern Vermont.

As Sports Editor I became immediately responsible for the entire re-adaptation of The Message sports department, which now includes the weekly sports coverage of eight area high schools as well as local college, youth and adult leagues and various community events.

My sports coverage includes the creation of all articles, interviews and photography, as well as the editing of all sports-related press releases and photos submitted by the public.

I created the popular sports commentary column called "View From The Pressbox", which concentrates on both national and local sports issues and personalities. The column has now run every week for nearly three years.

I am also responsible for the daily writing and posting of all sports-related articles and photo galleries on The Message web site, and also contribute feature articles, reviews and photography to both the "Arts & Entertainment" and various "Community" sections of the publication as well.

Soon I'll make available selected samples of my sports writing, in the meantime please visit the JEM image galleries to view samples of my sports photography.
